Football Spread Betting fans will be foaming at the mouth on the weekend of 18/19th April as Wembley plays host to this season’s FA Cup semi finals. Saturday evening sees a London derby as Arsenal and Chelsea go at it, before the North West clash between Manchester United and Everton on Sunday afternoon.
Spread betting fans will be aware that despite these two sides having been evenly matched in recent seasons; Arsenal seem to have grabbed the upper hand in the last two years, winning two of the last three meetings, including a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge in late November. This is the Gunners’ first semi final appearance since lifting the trophy in 2005 and they have a good record against Chelsea in this competition beating them twice this decade, including a 2-0 win in the final in 2002. The Gunners are also unbeaten domestically since 6th December and Chelsea will have their work cut out against a team that has conceded just six domestic goals in 2009.
The Blues however have been uplifted recently by the arrival of Dutch coach Gus Hiddink and have lost just once since the Russia manager arrived in late January. Football bettors will also be aware before Arsenal’s two recent victories, Chelsea had been unbeaten against the North London side for ten games and with a crucial injury to Arsenal defender William Gallas, Ivorian Didier Drogba will fancy his chances of adding to his tally of four goals in four games against the Gunners.
In the other semi final league leaders United will be looking to gain some much needed momentum heading into the conclusion of the season, whilst David Moyes will be looking to cause an upset not dissimilar to when the teams last met at Wembley when Joe Royle’s blues beat United 1-0 back in the 1995 final.
Spread bettors will note that the Champions have conceded ten goals in their last four games as the confidence appears to have seeped out of a seemingly watertight defence. Spread bettors will also note that Everton have lost just twice since December 7th, and have scored ten in their last four outings. They will however be aware that one of these defeats was at Old Trafford in late January and United go into the game knowing that they have lost just once against their Merseyside counterparts since that 1995 Cup Final defeat.
With the inform Jo cup tied, United’s shaky defence will have to be on the lookout for the leggy Fellaini, who has had a real impact on the Toffees since signing from Standard Liege scoring three times in his last four games. On the flip side United will be looking to Ronaldo and Rooney, who between them have scored 37 goals this season, to provide them with some much needed inspiration.
