DROGBA ANNOUNCEMENT SOON

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has said that he will make an announcement regarding his future in the next couple of days. The Ivory Coast international left Chelsea after eight memorable years during which time he has won every major trophy including the Champions League this time around. He is widely expected to leave European football and sign for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua where former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka also plays. It is widely thought that the former Bolton Wanderers player played a crucial role in helping Didier Drogba convinced that a move to China was the best possible decision at this moment.

The Chinese club have also confirmed that they are in advanced talks with the former Chelsea striker over the possibility of a move to China. However, nothing has become official yet, but Drogba has revealed today that he will make a decision soon. Drogba could become one of the best paid players in the world after he is expected to be offered a contract worth around £ 250,000 per week. He is expected to sign a three-year deal with the club. The 34-year-old is still regarded as one of the best strikers in the world and it will be a major coup for Chinese football.

“The next step is interesting. I will announce it soon. But as of now, you will just have to wait. Now I can’t divulge where I am heading to. It will be known soon. But I can say that my eight years in Chelsea were the best years in my football career. My heart is blue [the colour of the Chelsea jersey]. I love the fans. I have a special relationship with them and with the team management and the players. We have been able to make Chelsea a football brand around the world,” said Drogba.

DROGBA WANTS TO STAY

Monday, March 5th, 2012

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has said that he wants to remain with the London club for a number of years. Didier Drogba has been linked with a move elsewhere in the summer after failing to agree a contract with Chelsea so far. Even though wages do not seem to be a problem, the contract length has been the source of many issues between the two parties concerned. It is thought that a Didier Drogba is keen on stressing the fact that he began playing at the top level only when he was 24 years old. As a result, Drogba believes that he can continue to the top level for at least three more years, which Chelsea naturally do not seem to agree.

Drogba is currently 34 years old and Chelsea are looking to bring down the age of their squad. The average age of the Chelsea squad is currently 27 years, which is extremely high when compared with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, whose squad is averaging around 24 years. Drogba, Frank Lampard, and Florent Malouda are the players under the threat from the axe of manager Andre Villas-Boas. Drogba, though, is confident that he can stay with Chelsea past this season as well.

“I’m really happy where I am. I belong to Chelsea. For me, that’s what matters. Everyone knows I want to stay in blue and everybody knows I love the club and the fans,” Didier Drogba said when asked about his future. There have been reports that Drogba could be set for a move to China in very much a similar fashion to the move former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka completed only a few months ago. If Drogba makes such a move, it would make him the highest-paid player in the world at £ 400,000 per week.

DROGBA ON HIS WAY OUT?

Friday, January 13th, 2012

A massive revamp operation is being undertaken by new manager Andre Villas-Boas at Chelsea. One of the biggest things that seems to be worrying him at the moment is the decision over star striker Didier Drogba.

Didier Drogba has been at Chelsea since 2004 and is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world. However, the striker will be soon turning 34 years of age in March and it is something that Villas-Boas has to consider before offering him a two-year contract. Didier Drogba has categorically stated that he is unwilling to accept anything other than a two-year contract, but Chelsea are prepared to offer him only one at extension to his current £ 120,000 a week deal.

As a result, Drogba – who has only six months left on his current contract – his now free to talk with other clubs regarding a potential move. Striker Nicolas Anelka has already been sold to a Chinese club in the January transfer window, and it is understood that Villas-Boas is not keen on losing yet another striker at this stage of the season. Even though Chelsea’s chances of winning the Premier League title looks very slim, Villas-Boas is at least looking at the prospect of challenging for the Champions League title.

It has been reported that Didier Drogba could be lured to China with a reported £ 400,000 per week wage packet. However, such rumours have been dismissed by the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, who has signed Nicolas Anelka on a £ 200,000 per week salary. It is highly unlikely that Chelsea will be able to offer such extravagant amounts of money to a player who is coming to the end of his contract. It will be interesting to see the performance of Fernando Torres in the absence of Didier Drogba.

DROGBA WANTED IN CHINA

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Talismanic Chelsea front man Didier Drogba has emerged as a shock transfer target for Chinese superpowers Shanghai Shenhua, who recently announced the capture of former France international striker Nicolas Anelka from Chelsea.

The Chinese side is keeping close tabs on the recent contract situation between The Pensioners and the Ivory Coast international striker after it was revealed that talks for a contract extension between the two sides have come to a standstill. Drogba is looking for a contract of at least two years whereas Chelsea wants to offer him a contract for one year only.

It has been rumored that the former Chinese champions are paying Anelka £ 8 million to don their colors and it is highly likely that they will offer Drogba a salary that will be more or less the same and for a player who is at the wrong end of 30 years and nearing the end of his career, it might also be a good option for Didier Drogba to take up as well.

The Chinese side has also roped in former French international player Jean Tigana to manage the side and the director of the club has also announced that they have spoken to his agent about a possible move to the Far East. It was recently rumored that both Tottenham Hotspur and Italian giants AC Milan are also after his signature but it seems that Shanghai Shenhua is the side that is making all the moves for the Ivorian. According to the director of Shanghai Shenhua, with the signing of Anelka, the club has already made it clear that they have the money and are willing to spend it on quality players and if that player is of the quality of Didier Drogba they will welcome him with open arms and a huge salary.
